ABOUT RENEE DANIEL FLAGLER
Renee Daniel Flagler is an award-winning writer, adjunct professor, and a speaker who is passionate about encouraging people, especially women and youth, to pursue their passion and purpose. Renee is the Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Long Island, whose mission is to empower girls to be strong, smart and bold. As an advocate for youth both in the United States and abroad, Renee is a founding board member and former Board Chair for LEAP (Literacy Empowerment Action Project) Global, an organization with a mission to provide innovative literacy, youth empowerment programming, and high school scholarships to students in Ghana, Africa.
Prior to being promoted to the role of Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Long Island, Renee worked as the Program Manager overseeing program development, school partnerships, training and supervision of the programming staff. Renee has facilitated literacy programs, developed curriculum and provided professional development as a freelance teaching artist for several years with organizations such as, Community Word Project, Voices Unbroken, Writopia, and Divine Write. Before working in youth development, Renee spent over a decade as a marketing professional and consultant for various companies including Verizon, CMP Media, The Network Journal, and Working Mother Media.
Renee lives by the mantra, ‘service is our human duty’ and spends much of her time serving her community on a local and global level. In addition to serving as the Board Chair for LEAP Global, Renee also served as a member of the Board of Directors for The National Coalition of One Hundred Black Women, Long Island Chapter, Inc., an organization with a mission to help woman and girls advance in the areas of health, education, and economic development. She is a mentor with the Adelphi University Mentorship Program and has started a self-named scholarship program for students pursuing degrees in writing and social justice. She has received several awards for being an outstanding professional and writer, and for her avid work in the community from various organizations including The Suffolk County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated, The Long Island Business News Top 50 Women in Business, The Angel Awards, The Creative Writing Award from The College of New Rochelle, The City of Long Beach, New York Association of Black Journalists, and The Uniondale Public Library.
Renee devotes her time to her family, her passion for literature, church, and community service. Renee is the author of several novels, one of which has been optioned for film. Renee writes romance novels, which she pens under the pseudonym Nicki Night. Renee is often called upon to speak at events and delivers powerful messages of empowerment. She is at work on her first non-fiction book, Dream Journey: 7 Steps for Professionalizing Your Passion (March 2019).
Renee received a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from The College of New Rochelle, a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Adelphi University, a Master of Arts in Media Arts from New School University, and a Bachelor of Science in Communications from St. John’s University.
The Renee Daniel Flagler Scholarship Program
The Renee Daniel Flagler Literary Scholarship provides $1000 in financial support to a graduating high school student in Nassau County demonstrating interest in English, Writing, Literature, Journalism or other writing or publishing disciplines.
The Renee Daniel Flagler Empowerment Scholarship provides $1000 in financial support to graduating high school students in Nassau County who demonstrate a commitment to community service and an interest in empowering others.
As a published writer, instructor, and advocate for literacy, The Scholarship Program is part of Renee's personal commitment to community service and a desire to empower students who demonstrate a passion for the written word. The academic awards are intended to assist with the cost of tuition for accredited colleges/universities or assist with the cost of books and supplies.
